INDIANAPOLIS – Looking to make it three straight titles, regionally ranked Hillsdale led all programs in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour released Wednesday.
The Chargers collected five first-place votes in the coaches balloting and accumulated a total of 35 points. Tiffin also pulled in a pair of first-place votes and the Dragons are the preseason runner-up with 30 points.
Walsh is also regionally ranked according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and came in third with 26 points. Postseason qualifier Findlay is fourth followed by Cedarville, Kentucky Wesleyan and Ursuline in the seven-team standings.
Hillsdale and Walsh are ranked ninth and 10th, respectively, in the ITA Midwest Region women’s team rankings that came out on January 15.
Tiffin’s Abbie Jade Riley is individually ranked in the Midwest Region with the ITA placing her at No. 19 to end the fall season.
The 10th-ranked doubles combo in the Midwest Region is Walsh’s Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki.
The top four teams in the conference standings will head down to Owensboro where Kentucky Wesleyan will once against host the Great Midwest Championship tournament for 2020.
The spring portion of the 2019-20 season is already underway with several teams competing against regional competition over the past weekend. Most schools competed at the ITA Regionals in the fall season to help prepare for the longer spring schedule.
