Official NCAA Release
INDIANAPOLIS – After competing at the Great Midwest/Mountain East Conference Championships and a last chance meet, the postseason will continue on for several swimming & diving student-athletes from Findlay.
The NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship qualifiers were announced on Wednesday evening for Division II as the nation’s best will pack their bags for Geneva, Ohio, and the SPIRE Institute.
Great Midwest member institution Lake Erie will serve as host for the four-day meet running from March 11-14. Student-athlete qualifiers either hit “B” or “A” cut standards throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
After winning Great Midwest/Mountain Swimmer of the Meet and Freshman of the Meet awards in Canton, Findlay freshman
Tim Stollings (Prichard, W.Va./Homeschool) qualified for nationals in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Stollings joins former Oilers’ standout Janko Radmanovic as individual swimming national qualifiers in the league’s short history of sport sponsorship.
He broke combined conference championship meet records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, just a few weeks ago. He also contributed to new relay meet records in the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
Also qualifying from the diving platform was Findlay’s
Dalton Shevlin (Solon, OH/Solon HS). The junior earned all-conference honors once again at the Great Midwest/Mountain East Championship meet.
Shevlin is the second diver in conference history to make the preliminary qualification standards to nationally qualify, joining former Tiffin diver Nickolas Jefferson.
The Findlay men, three-time combined conference team champions, will also be sending a 200-yard medley relay unit and 400-yard medley relay team to compete. The probable lineup could include freshman Colin Martin, senior Isaac Stretch and sophomore Paul Pavala, along with Stollings in the mix.
The Findlay women were represented by senior Hanna Cederholm
(Kvibille, Sweden/Sannarpsgymnasiet) and sophomore Chris McFarland
(Northfield, OH/Nordonia HS) in their own respective signature events.
Cederholm qualified in the 100 and 200 breaststroke after earning All-American honors last season. She is making a trip to nationals in the 100 and 200 for the third consecutive season and captured Great Midwest/Mountain East Swimmer of the Meet honors in Canton.
McFarland is back in the mix in the 100 backstroke after she qualified for the same event as a freshman.
The Oilers also qualified in the relay races and will send the 200 medley relay foursome. Presumably, for head coach Andrew Makepeace, that unit would potentially consist of Cederholm, McFarland, senior Katy Kouvaris
(Troy, MI/Mercy HS) and possibly sophomore Kristina Coleman.
