Baseball Players of the Week (Feb. 25)

2.25.20

INDIANAPOLIS – West Division member Tiffin and East Division affiliate Malone earned selections for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week honors as announced on Tuesday.

Player of the Week
Cody Orr
Tiffin
Utility/Pitcher
Junior
Rossford, OH (Rossford HS)

At times during the 2019 postseason, Orr absolutely stole the show to help Tiffin secure the conference tournament title and advance to the national tournament.

The reigning Great Midwest champs are off and running once again after starting the spring with three straight wins out in Cary, N.C., at the USA Baseball Complex. The Dragons won by a combined score of 32-8 vs. Goldey-Beacom, Frostburg State and Clarion, in order.

Orr set the tone at the top of the batting order and hit .638 while going 7-for-11 at the dish. He doubled, tripled and had 5 RBI while crossing home plate six times. He also reached base with five walks and stole four bases.

In the season opener, Orr was 4-for-5 out of the leadoff spot. He pulled the game even in the fifth inning with a two-run triple and scored the go-ahead run on the next at-bat. Orr had another RBI in the eighth inning.

In the next game, he reached four times with a hit, pair of walks and was hit by a pitch.

He wrapped up the weekend with another impressive line, 2-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored vs. Clarion.

Pitcher of the Week
Eric Mullet
Malone
RHP
Senior
Berlin, OH (Hiland HS)

There were multiple eye-opening outings throughout the league including Ohio Dominican’s Grayson Hamilton and Findlay’s Anthony Kyle; Mullet was just nearly untouchable in a no-decision vs. West Liberty in his first turn through the rotation.

The senior righty threw five scoreless innings and struck out 10 while allowing just three hits.

He walked two and faced 20 hitters as Malone’s offense came to life late with three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Hilltoppers.

Mullet is now a three-time conference pitcher of the week during his career.

He won as a freshman and as a junior while earning all-conference team honors in all three seasons possible, including all-freshman team accolades as a rookie.
