INDIANAPOLIS – Opening day for the spring season was a celebrated by a handful of teams as the first series of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week was revealed on Monday.
The weather threw a wrench into teams’ regularly-scheduled plans. Alderson Broaddus matched up against Coker, Cedarville was able to play one game against Lander, Ohio Valley fit in a three-game set against Lincoln Memorial and Trevecca Nazarene went to Alabama to face Montevallo.

The Trevecca sophomore earned his first Great Midwest Player of the Week award by crushing the ball in the Trojans’ opening weekend series against Montevallo.
Goolsby went .467 (7-15) with five RBIs, two runs scored, a double and home run. Though the Trojans lost the decisive game three of the series, Goolsby shined at the plate and in the field.
The cleanup hitter produced an on-base percentage of .467 and was a .733 slugger while starting in left field every game.
Goolsby recorded multi-hit games in all three of the Trojans’ opening weekend series games including a 2-for-5 game two where he collected his first home run of the season in a 15-8 loss.
As a freshman Goolsby was named to the Great Midwest first team all-conference. The Trojans host Northwood University (0-0) for their home opener this weekend

Diaz has baffled lineups for two straight starts, bursting out of the gates as the early league leader in ERA following his second turn through the rotation.
Versus Lincoln Memorial to start a three-game slate, Diaz tossed a gem and had a quality start with 6.1 innings pitched and the winning decision.
The junior righty gave up just one run on five hits and struck out three hitters. His pitch count sat at 95 as he faced 24 LMU hitters.
The win was the first for the Fighting Scots and Diaz now features an ERA of 1.64 through 11 innings pitched after getting the Opening Day nod vs. Montevallo last weekend.
