Women's Basketball Player of the Week (Dec. 14)

INDIANAPOLIS - Findlay earned its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor this season, as announced Monday afternoon.

The Oilers improved to 2-1 in the league after handing Tiffin (3-1) their first loss of the season in a Friday afternoon matchup. The Dragons played three times this week, winning their other two games over Malone (1-2) and Ursuline (0-3). 

Cedarville (3-1) went 2-0 on the week, defeating Ursuline on the road and Malone on their home court. Preseason favorite Walsh improved to 2-0 as it rolled past Hillsdale (0-3) in their first home contest of the season. 

Kentucky Wesleyan, Lake Erie, Ohio Dominican, Ohio Valley, and Trevecca Nazarene did not compete this week.

Schweiger is off to a tremendous start to her junior season, as she has both tied and surpassed her previous career-high scoring total (20) in just three games on the year. 

Schweiger filled the stat sheet in Friday’s win over Tiffin, scoring a career-high 23 points on 6-of-9 shooting (66.7%), to go along with eight assists and six steals in 23 minutes of play. 

The junior guard currently ranks fifth in the conference in assists (5.0 apg) and is sixth in scoring (18.3 ppg). 

Last season, she had a career-high 11 assists vs Ohio Dominican, which marked the first time in 10 years a Findlay player had reached double-digit assists in a game. 

This is the first time in Schweiger’s career she has earned Great Midwest Player of the Week honors.
