INDIANAPOLIS – For four consecutive weeks, the Walsh Cavaliers have been trending upward as a mover in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Top-25 Poll.
The rapid ascent didn’t change as Walsh saw its biggest movement this past week, jumping up five spots to No. 14 from No. 19 in Division II as one of the top women’s basketball programs.
Walsh (17-2 overall, 10-0 Great Midwest) has been ranked 25th, 23rd and 19th, prior to this week’s new poll.
Both Walsh men’s and women’s programs are now nationally ranked. The men jumped into the NABC’s Top 25 ranked No. 21 earlier this week.
The Cavaliers are defending Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament champions in both genders while going into 2019-20 as the preseason favorites. Both program also lead the current point rating system totals in the conference standings for postseason qualification.
Walsh pushed its current win streak to 12 straight with a big win over Findlay in Alumni Arena as the program hit the century mark with a season-high 100 points.
The Cavaliers will be on the road this week in conference play at Hillsdale on Thursday and Findlay on Saturday.
With a 19-1 record, Kentucky Wesleyan is finally receiving votes and the Panthers are on a six game win streak of their own. The Panthers have just one conference loss, vs. Walsh, and will be at Ursuline and Lake Erie this week.
The Midwest Region is tough with Drury and Ashland locking down spots as the top two nationally-ranked programs in Division II.
