INDIANAPOLIS – Hillsdale senior All-American Joseph Humes dashed his way to the first offering of the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association Athlete of the Week award to start the fall season.
Humes, a senior from Maybee, Michigan, picked up the fourth win of his collegiate career on the grass circuit this past weekend at the Calvin Knight Invitational. He crossed the finish line in 24:49.9 for the 8K course, with the next closest competitor finishing 21 seconds back.
Humes marked his place in the conference record books with the 13th-best time since the league archives started in 2012. He also earned Great Midwest Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors as announced on Sunday.
This is the first time a National Athlete of the Week honor has been announced on the men’s side for Hillsdale.
It also represents the first time in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history in the sport of men’s cross country a student-athlete has received the prestigious national honor.
