INDIANAPOLIS – Almost 2,000 student-athletes from around the league were officially named to the 2018-19 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team that was released on Wednesday afternoon.

Records were broken across the board as the conference celebrated hard work in the classroom from its 14 full-member institutions and three associate member schools competing in 23 total championship sports.

A total of 1,969 student-athletes, including freshmen for the first time, were part of the largest Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team roster in the league’s history. It was the seventh consecutive season that numbers increased across the board, revealing sustained league-wide academic success.

For the second consecutive year, the University of Findlay paced all schools with a total of 269 student-athlete selections with a 3.30 cumulative GPA or better. The Oilers had another impressive superlative for their strong academic year after also being crowned winners of the 2018-19 Great Midwest Presidents’ Cup trophy that was awarded at the spring banquet.

Findlay had a total of 205 student-athlete honorees, which was a record at the time, named to last year’s academic all-conference team.

Walsh had the second-most selections while producing 248 additions to the academic all-conference team while Tiffin’s successful first year as a league member resulted in 228 total names.

A new record total of 96 student-athletes also held the coveted distinction of carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA or better, including Great Midwest Scholar-Athletes of the Year Jacob Turner and Corynne Swift, both from Walsh.

To be named to the Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team, the student-athlete’s grade point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system, the GPA shall be cumulative for the student-athlete’s entire collegiate career and the student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution. Student-athlete GPA's reported by each institution were reflected through the spring semester.

Thirteen full-member institutions will look to take aim for yet another record-breaking number during the 2019-20 season to receive academic all-conference team accolades.
