Five Earn IWLCA All-Midwest Region Team Honors

INDIANAPOLIS
– Five student-athletes from Great Midwest Athletic Conference schools Findlay and Tiffin earned selectins as NCAA DII All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for 2019.
 
Findlay and Tiffin collided for the Great Midwest Championship title with the Oilers prevailing with a 9-8 final, the second one-goal differential between the two schools this spring.
 
A total of 32 selections from institutions in the Great Midwest, Great Lakes Valley Conference, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Mountain East Conference and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, comprised the IWLCA All-Midwest Region Team.
 
Four selections from the conference champion Oilers of Findlay were honored to the IWLCA Midwest Region Second Team, including midfielder Ciara Burud, attack Brie Caruso, goalkeeper Claire Ferrell and defender Brittany Stephens.
 
Tiffin was also represented on the IWLCA Midwest Region Second Team with junior midfielder Elle Hamilton honored.
 
Ferrell was a first team all-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) pick for the Oilers in 2019 and finished the year with 140 assists in goal. She is the Oilers all-time leader in wins with 19 and saves with 319.

Caruso was also a first team all-conference selection and finished second on the team with 47 goals. She also added 15 assists and a team-high 46 draw controls. During her career, Caruso racked up 120 goals, the sixth-highest mark in program history.

Stephens was tabbed the Great Midwest Defender of the Year and also earned first team all-conference accolades. She recorded 53 ground balls and caused 26 turnovers. Stephens currently ranks fourth all-time at Findlay with 61 caused turnovers.

Burud led the Oilers with 52 goals and also added 16 assists. The first team all-conference performer also led the team in ground balls with 60 and caused turnovers with 33, ranking second in the league. Burud ranks third all-time at Findlay with 144 goals and third all-time with 137 ground balls.

Hamilton was an offensive machine throughout the season for the Dragons, leading the conference with 76 goals and finishing second in goals per game (4.42). She was also second in the league in total points with 88 and was third in overall points (4.89). The junior played all over the field as well, ranking fourth in the conference with 3.22 ground balls per game (58 total), third with 5.61 draw controls per game (101 total), and seventh with 1.33 caused turnovers per game (24 total).
