INDIANAPOLIS
– Five student-athletes from Great Midwest Athletic Conference associate member institutions Mercyhurst and Seton Hill earned classification as NCAA DII All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) for 2019.

Both Mercyhurst and Seton Hill qualified for the NCAA Championship bracket representing the North Region.

Mercyhurst ended the season ranked No. 9 in the final USILA Poll with a 13-4 record while Seton Hill was also in the top 10 at No. 10 with a 12-5 record.

Mercyhurst had also defeated Seton Hill in a closely-contested Great Midwest Championship matchup to finish out the conference playoffs. SHU had faced Mercy in the opening round of the national tournament while Mercyhurst hosted Merrimack.

Mercyhurst and Seton Hill each had one selection to the USILA All-American Third Team as defender Will Agate and long stick midfielder Brett Craig made the elite list.

The conference tournament champion Lakers also placed two names on the honorable mention list with Devin Pipher and Nathan Grenon garnering recognition at the attack and midfield positions, respectively.

Seton Hill additionally placed former conference freshman of the year Jay Scerbo as an honorable mention selection at the faceoff position.

Pipher was the Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year and Craig was the Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year as part of the all-conference awards voted upon by the league’s coaches.

Both Grenon and Agate were first team all-conference picks for their programs.

Pipher was the league leader in points (76) and assists (41) and his per-game averages in both categories also topped all players. He netted 35 goals and recorded four game winners.

Scerbo has won a league-best 68 percent of his faceoffs this season and leads the team with 126 ground balls. He also has added seven goals and three assists while being named the Great Midwest Specialist of the Year.

Craig is getting ready to pursue his professional career in Major League Lacrosse after being selected by the Atlanta Blaze in the fifth round of this year’s collegiate draft. He was the 39th overall selection and the first Division II player to be taken off the board.

In his first three seasons, Craig scored 15 goals and added eight assists while picking up 190 ground balls and causing 71 turnovers. Former teammate and USILA All-American Zack Rusch was drafted by the Dallas Rattlers in the 2019 MLL supplemental draft.

Agate had 35 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers in 17 games that he appeared in. Grenon was a conference offensive player of the week selection and emerged as a key contributor with 31 goals and 15 assists for 46 points.
