Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (April 30)

INDIANAPOLIS – The playoffs are coming as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week were distributed with the regular season coming to a close. 
 
Four teams are making their way to Seton Hill University and this year’s site for the Great Midwest Championship. The top-seeded Griffins are hosting once again while No. 2 Mercyhurst, No. 3 Lake Erie and No. 4 Walsh, also comprise this year’s field. 
 
Offensive Player of the Week

Kueber was a one-man wrecking crew once again, reeling off a 10-point effort against Roberts Wesleyan in the regular-season finale. 
 
Kueber scored eight goals and assisted two more for the Lakers, who go into the conference tournament ranked fourth in the North Region and tied for seventh in the country. 
 
He was also credited with the game winner in a 19-6 Mercyhurst win, the team’s 11th victory of the spring. 
 
The sophomore is currently second in the conference in points (62) and is the league leader in goals scored (43). Kueber has earned offensive player of the week honors three times in 2019. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week

Varela helped the Battlers finish the regular season on a high note, dropping Wheeling Jesuit in overtime in the final contest for the year. 
 
Varela was credited with 21 saves, over 70 percent of his chances, as he withstood 44 total shots from the Cardinals. 
 
Varela made six saves in each the third and fourth periods while getting one more stop in overtime Jordan Look put away the game winner.
 
Varela allowed just nine goals while playing all 63:16 of regulation and change.
