OWENSBORO, Ky. – Another dominating display on the courts translated into back-to-back trophies as Hillsdale finished on top of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Saturday.

The top-seeded Chargers finished their perfect conference playoff run with a 4-1 victory over No. 2 seed Walsh, winning at the point of decision.

Hillsdale is officially headed to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional for the second year in a row with the league’s automatic qualifying. The Chargers pushed their current win streak to 10 straight going into the extended postseason.

The Chargers will find out their regional destination during the NCAA Selection Show on Tuesday, May 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET.

After defeating No. 4 Findlay in the semifinals, Hillsdale forged ahead under Great Midwest Coach of the Year Nikki Walbright and talented members from last year’s championship-winning squad.

The Cavaliers made Hillsdale work for the doubles point, making things interesting as all-conference performers Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki won at No. 1 doubles for Walsh.

Hillsdale won both remaining doubles contests to carry the 1-0 lead moving into singles competition.

Kamryn Matthews secured the first singles point for Hillsdale on the scoreboard with a win in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Walsh’s Clara Drasch put the Cavaliers on the board by countering with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles.

Hillsdale next two outcomes officially clinched the match as Corinne Prost stepped on the court for a 6-4, 6-3 win and freshman Sarah Hackman emerged as the winner in the No. 2 duel.

Walsh had advanced into the championship final after eliminating No. 3 seed Tiffin in Friday’s first-round action at the Owensboro Centre Courts.
