Tennis Athletes of the Week (April 24)

INDIANAPOLIS – Regionally-ranked Tiffin and Findlay closed out the regular season with Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week awards as announced on Wednesday. 
 
Four teams from the league are sending their men’s and women’s programs to Owensboro for the Great Midwest Tennis Championships that start on Friday morning. 
 
Thursday night’s ice cream social will be the unveiling of the all-conference team and this year’s individual award winners. 
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Norin Savrotchi 
Tiffin
Senior
Mouxfort, Luxembourg
 
Savrotchi helped the Dragons finish off an undefeated run through the regular season in conference action to become regular-season champions with a win over Davis & Elkins.
 
TU is the No. 1 seed going into the conference tournament in the four-team bracket and is also ranked No. 10 in the NCAA DII Midwest Region rankings. 
 
Savrotchi, a senior, defeated Alejandro Meseguer in straight sets at the No. 2 singles matchup, 6-3, 6-4.
 
He then helped the Dragons sweep the doubles point with a 6-0 win in No. 3 doubles with Hugo Chatras. 
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Samantha Sweet
Findlay
Sophomore
Mercer Island, WA (Mercer Island HS)
 
Sweet was a perfect 7-0 in conference play at the No. 1 singles position, a key catalyst for the program’s success qualifying for the postseason again. 
 
She finished off her perfect regular season in league play with a straight-set victory over Cedarville’s Liana English, 6-3, 6-2. 
 
Sweet also won No. 1 doubles with Laiying Alvarado by a final score of 6-1. The talented sophomore goes into the playoffs with a 12-5 overall record singles action. 

Sweet is also 9-1 in her past 10 singles matches, regardless of opponent, including a three-set win over Southern Indiana’s No. 1 back on March 31.
