Final Four Teams Advance Into Friday’s Semifinal Round

INDIANAPOLIS – The stage is set for the semifinals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship following the completion of four first-round contests on Tuesday evening. 
 
No. 1 Walsh, No. 2 Kentucky Wesleyan, No. 3 Cedarville and No. 5 Hillsdale, all won their quarterfinal contests to start the postseason.
 
Those four teams will now travel to North Canton, Ohio, where Walsh serves as host for Friday’s semifinals and Saturday’s championship game. 
 
The championship banquet will recognize the achievements of the student-athletes while the annual all-conference team with individual award winners will officially be unveiled. 
 
Friday’s first semifinal features No. 1 Walsh vs. No. 5 Hillsdale at 5:30 p.m. ET inside Alumni Arena. The second semifinal is No. 2 Kentucky Wesleyan vs. No. 3 Cedarville with an approximate 7:30 p.m. ET tipoff.
 
The winners of Friday’s games will play for the championship and the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional. Two Great Midwest teams are currently in the third edition of the Midwest Region rankings with Kentucky Wesleyan at No. 7 and Walsh breaking in with its first appearance at No. 10. 
 
KWC, WU and Cedarville, all tied for first in the conference standings at 18-4 and were co-regular season champions going into the playoffs. While some teams moved, others had to come terms with their respective playoff hopes coming to an end. 
 
Hillsdale’s 2018 conference championship run was also as a five seed and the Chargers pulled an opening-round upset in OT over No. 4 Findlay in a tough environment at Croy Gymnasium.
 
KWC sank 16 three-point buckets en route to a 40-point win over No. 7 seed Ohio Dominican in the battle of the Panthers vs. Panthers at the Sportscenter in Owensboro. 
 
Cedarville ended Malone’s season in a No. 3 / No. 6 matchup with sophomore guard Ashlyn Hoffman playing a starring role with 25 points, seven assists and five rebounds. 
 
Walsh upended No. 8 Trevecca Nazarene in a closely-contested game. The Cavaliers have entered double-digit territory with their win streak at 10 going into Friday.
