INDIANAPOLIS – Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s & Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week were announced on Wednesday as teams get ready to start league competition for the spring season. 
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Michael Szabo
Hillsdale
Junior
Midland, MI (Dow HS)
 
Szabo scored an impressive singles win against the No. 6-ranked team in the country and fourth-ranked program in the South Region against Saint Leo. 
 
Despite a team defeat, the Chargers were able to hang tough and with a weekly split, moved their season record to 9-4 overall.
 
Szabo won in straight sets over Noel Kunz, 6-2, 6-4. He also was part of the No. 3 doubles pairing that dropped a close one, 7-5, to the Lions.
 
Two days later, the junior contributed with a singles and doubles win against Our Lady of the Lake to wrap up the team’s spring break journey. Szabo beat Abraham Cantu at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-0. 
 
He also won in doubles with Gabe Katz for a 6-1 final. Szabo has found his comfort zone at No. 4 singles with his record improving to 4-1.
 
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Lauren Prince
Tiffin
Junior
Ashbourne, U.K.
 
Tiffin registered a pair of regional wins against Ashland and Saginaw Valley State as the Dragons swept two on the road. 
 
Prince was a key contributor in both victories, needing just two sets to finish business at No. 4 singles to score points for the Dragons. 
 
In the 4-3 win against Ashland, Prince downed Brianna Brdicka, 7-6, 6-2. She also was part of the No. 1 doubles tandem for a 6-3 win as part of the doubles team sweep.
 
The next day against SVSU, Prince beat Nicole Johnson, 6-1, 6-1, and contested No. 1 doubles with teammate Juliette Sirgant.
