Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (March 19)

INDIANAPOLIS – With a pair of victories, including one in league play, 12th-ranked Mercyhurst secured Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week as announced on Tuesday. 
 
Two teams remain locked into the USILA Coaches Poll with Seton Hill at No. 11 and the Lakers right behind. SHU gave No. 2 Limestone all it could handle in a 15-14 loss and the Griffins tough schedule has produced some very close finishes. 
 
Mercyhurst and Seton Hill remain tied at the top of the Great Midwest standings with Wheeling Jesuit, Lake Erie and Walsh, waiting to play their first conference contest.
 
The Great Midwest/East Coast Challenge Cup standings currently has the ECC on top, 2-0, with wins coming from the District of Columbia and NYIT. 
 
Offensive Player of the Week

The Lakers put up a combined 41 goals in two games against Chestnut Hill and Davis & Elkins to improve to 4-2 overall this spring. 
 
Kueber was right in the mix, scratching out nine points with eight goals and one assist on 12 total shots. 
 
The sophomore attack produced three goals and one assist in the win against Chestnut Hill and had five goals on just seven shots taken in the Lakers’ first conference win vs. D&E. 
 
Kueber’s big week now has him with 21 points on the season, tied for second on the team behind Devin Pipher. Kueber also averages 2.83 goals per game, tops among all players in the league.

Bates earned his second conference defensive weekly honor for the current season while standing out with ground ball, caused turnover and faceoff numbers.
 
Bates collected 11 ground balls, including four vs. Davis & Elkins and seven more against Chestnut Hill. 
 
He caused three turnovers and also won seven of eight faceoffs while also assisting one of the Lakers’ goals vs. Chestnut Hill. 
 
Bates leads Mercyhurst with 25 ground balls in six games and has nine caused turnovers to also pace his team.
