Tennis Athletes of the Week (March 13)

INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay and Cedarville’s spring break success translated into Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s & Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Wednesday. 
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Tomas Kmetko
Findlay
Senior
Bratislava, Slovakia (Tusculum University)
 
Kmetko earned his second athlete of the week honor since arriving at semester break and making an instant impact on Findlay’s rotation. 
 
The Oilers beat Saint Anselm and Assumption and also faced No. 20 Concordia (N.Y.) and Lee down in Orlando on neutral courts. 
 
Kmetko was undefeated in all action, singles or doubles, as Findlay improved to 6-4 overall on the season. 
 
Kmetko went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and did not drop a set, including the matchup against nationally-ranked Concordia (N.Y.). He teamed with Jorge Barneuvo to beat Concordia’s double tandem that included 10th-ranked Michele Fenoaltea. 
 
The combo of Kmetko and Barnuevo was also a perfect 3-0 on the week. 
 
As a team, Findlay has won over 64 percent of its singles matches (38-21) and almost 68 percent of its doubles contests (19-9). 
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Liana English
Cedarville
Sophomore
Morgantown, WV (Homeschool)
 
The Yellow Jackets were also in the Sunshine State for their spring break destination, taking on Regis, Rensselaer Polytech, St. Francis (Ill.) and Saint Anselm. 
 
English has shined at the No. 1 singles slot, going 4-0 in the past week. She was 3-1 in doubles, also handling responsibilities at the No. 1 position. 
 
English also delivered wins in straight sets for all matches she competed in. 
 
Liana English has been paired with her sister, Janelle, once in doubles. Her primary doubles partner has been Rosie Thompson and together they are 5-2. 
 
Through the spring break trip, Cedarville upped its record to 8-3 overall.
