Baseball Players of the Week (Feb. 19)

2.19.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Several more programs around the league made their spring debuts as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week honors were released on Tuesday morning.

Player of the Week
Genesis Hillard
Ohio Dominican
Outfield
Senior
Cincinnati, OH (Colerain HS)

Hillard’s production leading off the top of the order helped Ohio Dominican cruise to victory in a doubleheader sweep over Urbana.

The senior outfielder was 4-for-6 in his official at-bats with five runs scored and three extra-base hits. He drove in four runs, walked three times and stole a base.

Hillard doubled and was 2-for-3 in game one of the doubleheader. He scored twice as the Panthers pitched a season-opening shutout, 9-0.

In game two, Hillard was the catalyst for more run production from the powerful Ohio Dominican offense. He doubled and tripled and had four RBI to go with three runs.

Hillard’s two-run double was part of a five-run fourth inning and he legged out a two-run triple in his last at-bat of the series finding a gap to left center.

Pitcher of the Week
Mitchell Bault
Ohio Dominican
RHP
Senior
Maineville, OH (Archbishop Moeller)

Spring training is just getting underway in the bigs, but Bault looked like he was in midseason form in his first turn on the hill against the Blue Knights.

The senior had the strikeout pitch working as he combined with two teammates (Tyler Dalzell, Logan Brewer) on a two-hit shutout to open the year.

Bault fanned 11 in 5.1 scoreless innings for the winning decision. He gave up just two hits and walked none while facing 20 Urbana batters.

Bault was 6-2 with 83 K’s in his first season with the Great Midwest last year, helping ODU to a North Division regular-season title and the top overall seed for the conference tourney. The Panthers were also picked as preseason coaches poll favorites this year.

This is the righty's fourth conference pitcher of the week honor for his career.
