Hillsdale Favored to Repeat in Women’s Tennis

2.1.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Defending champ Hillsdale garnered all possible seven first-place votes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour that was released Friday.

The Chargers received 49 total points in the balloting and since schools aren’t allowed to cast votes for themselves, were an overwhelming favorite going into the spring.

A tie unfolded for second between Walsh and Tiffin as the Cavaliers and Dragons each secured 39 points. Walsh received the other first-place vote from the league’s coaches.

Most teams in the Great Midwest were able to compete in open invitational format during the shortened fall season with a handful of dual meets against regional competition.

Hillsdale’s 2018 conference championship run included wins against Findlay and Walsh to the point of decision before earning an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional.

HC was 7-0 with an undefeated mark in the conference schedule.

Findlay was tabbed fourth in the poll while Davis & Elkins and Cedarville ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.

Serving as host once again for this year’s conference tournament is Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro. The Panthers were picked seventh and Ursuline eighth to round out the poll.
