INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay claimed Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Oilers competed at the Calvin Winter Invitational, a three-day event with seven men’s programs and nine women’s teams in the field.
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Tim Stollings
Findlay
Freshman
Prichard, WV
Stollings helped Findlay place fourth in the men’s standings with strong performances in different events for third, fourth and a pair of runner-up finishes.
The freshman earned second place in the 200 yard medley relay, where he swam first for the Oilers with a time of 22.59, not even a fourth of a second behind the leaders after he was done.
The other event Stollings placed second in was the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 47.93, just a half of a second behind the winner. Stollings also placed fourth in the 200 yard free relay, the 50 yard freestyle, the 400 yard medley Relay and the 400 Yard Free Relay.
He also finished in third with a brand new conference record in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 49.40.
Stollings has put a serious dent into the conference record books this early into his career, siimilar to the impact of what Paul Pavala did last year as a rookie. He ranks No. 3 in the 50 freestyle and No. 3 in the 100 butterfly only behind former UF All-American Janko Radmanovic.
The UF men’s team is now done for the 2019 calendar year while getting ready for its first 2020 meet at home against conference opponent Tiffin on Jan. 11.
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Hanna Cederholm
Findlay
Senior
Kvibille, Sweden (Sannarpsgymnasiet HS)
Cederholm made a great bid to qualify for nationals in three different events as the senior collected her third conference athlete of the week award.
Findlay was one of three Great Midwest schools to compete this past week as the Oilers traveled to the Calvin Winter Invitational.
Cederholm accomplished three different NCAA “B” standards at the event. Her first event was the 200 yard free relay where she was the anchor for her team. Cederholm swam a 23:54 and helped the Oilers win that event.
Cederholm also won the 100 yard breaststroke by just over two seconds and the 200 yard breaststroke by a second and a half.
The Oilers also won the 200 yard medley relay where Cederholm was the third swimmer of the four to race with a team time of 3:51.55.
Cederholm competed in a total of seven races. The Oilers are not done yet in 2019 as they travel to UIndy to battle with the Greyhounds and Toledo on Dec. 16.
