INDIANAPOLIS – Tiffin and Alderson Broaddus shared Great Midwest Athletic Conference Basketball Players of the Week honors as announced on Monday.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jairus Stevens
Tiffin
Forward
Junior
Merrillville, IN (Merrillville HS / Kilgore College / IPFW)
The former Mastadon (IPFW’s lovable mascot) helped Tiffin to a pair of victories in the non-conference slate vs. Wright State-Lake and Salem.
Stevens averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting over 57 percent from the field.
Stevens has established himself among the league’s top five leading scorers so far this season.
The Dragons’ offense was in sync vs. Wright State-Lake while erupting for 127 points. Seven different players would wind up scoring in double-figures, including five from a reserve role.
Stevens tied for the team lead in scoring with Jamaal Clifton with 18 points. The junior did his damage in just 15 minutes on the floor as he shot 8-of-14 and grabbed nine rebounds, four on the offensive glass.
In a close finish on the road at Salem, Stevens produced a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Again, he was efficient from the field, making 8-of-14 shots and made a pair of threes.
In four games, Stevens is averaging 20.5 points and eight rebounds per game so far.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Hannah Henderson
Alderson Broaddus
Forward
Junior
Chattanooga, TN (Ooltewah HS / Grambling State)
Another newcomer on the scene from a Division I school, Henderson had her way with Pitt-Johnstown as the Battlers earned their first victory of the season.
In one game, Henderson blew up for 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting. She added eight rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals.
Henderson cashed in for nine made free throws and was perfect on both attempts from beyond the arc.
The Battlers earned their first win of the season and handed UPJ its first loss of the year.
Henderson’s 33-point effort is tops in the league so far as two other players went for 30+ points on Saturday alone (Sha Carter – Walsh, Olivia Pepperman – Trevecca Nazarene).
In three games this season, Henderson is tied for the league lead in scoring with Carter at 21 points per game. She is also averaging 5.3 rebounds per contest.
