INDIANAPOLIS – A handful of teams were in action over the weekend as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week awards were announced on Tuesday morning.
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Joseph Humes

The Chargers keep testing themselves against the nation’s best, regardless of Division I, II or III, classification.
That trend certainly continued at the Notre Dame-hosted Joe Piane Invitational, where Humes shined in the men’s 5 mile race.
The senior was the runner-up in the Gold Division, averaging 4:50.9 per mile to clock a total time of 24:14.40.
All told, the 2018 NCAA All-American finished ahead of 158 Division I runners in the field of 160. He was just a shade over one second off the winning pace by UTEP’s Titus Cheruiyot and beat individuals from LSU, Kansas State, Clemson, Auburn and many more.
Humes helped Hillsdale finished 13th as a team in the Division I heavy team scoring as the Chargers averaged 25:25 among their point scorers.
Women’s Athlete of the Week

The Chargers carried a top 10 national USTFCCCA ranking into the weekend at the Joe Piane Invitational as the women ran a competitive 5K race.
Lewis carried the banner for Hillsdale as the team’s top finisher as she finished under 18 minutes for an official finish in 42nd.
The junior ran a 17:58.70 and was a bookend finish with teammate junior Maryssa Depies as she finished right behind.
Hillsdale certainly impressed with an 11th-place team finish in the standings. The Chargers toppled a total of 13 Division I programs including Central Michigan, IUPUI, Indiana State, Western Michigan and Belmont, among others.
