Cross Country Athletes of the Week (Oct. 1)

INDIANAPOLIS – The All-Ohio Championships took center stage in the Buckeye State as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week awards went to schools within the state.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Drew Roberts
Walsh
Freshman
Ashland, OH (Mapleton HS)
 
For the second week in a row, Roberts was tabbed after leading the No. 17 nationally ranked Cavaliers to a strong performance in Cedarville.
 
The freshman was the top finisher from the conference in the 8K race, crossing the line in a time of 25:42.70.
 
Roberts would place ninth overall in a field of over 300 runners in the collegiate division. He only finished behind multiple Division I student-athletes from Akron, Kent State and Dayton.
 
As a team, Walsh placed fourth out of 38 schools competing. The Cavaliers top scorers averaged 26:16 and had a cumulative time of 2:11.21.
 
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

Thompson also received conference weekly honors for the second time this season, continuing to shine following her redshirt season in 2018.
 
Thompson guided the Pioneers to a sixth-place team finish at the All-Ohio Championships as she carried the mantle as the conference’s top finisher in the women’s 6K collegiate division.
 
Thompson clocked a 22:17.00 as she only finished behind Dayton and Akron runners. It was another large field, this time with 282 runners in the women’s race.
 
Malone was competing in the team race along with Great Midwest schools Walsh and host Cedarville.
