Fifty Tennis Student-Athletes Haul in 2018 ITA Academic Honors

– The Great Midwest Athletic Conference contributed to record numbers released by The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) earlier this week as part of the organization’s all-academic teams and scholar-athletes for the 2017-18 academic year.
 
In all, 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across all five divisions of men’s and women’s tennis were honored.
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).
 
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
 
The Great Midwest had five women’s programs represented and a total of 34 individuals listed as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Sixteen men’s individuals from the Great Midwest were also recognized from four schools.
 
The Tiffin and Walsh women’s programs each had nine student-athletes selected, which ranked tied for second among all Division II institutions only behind Lincoln Memorial with 11.
 
Cedarville’s women had seven honorees, Findlay placed six and Hillsdale landed three. Cedarville, Findlay, Hillsdale, Tiffin and Walsh, were all recognized as 2018 ITA All-Academic Team representatives.
 
Walsh led all Great Midwest schools on the men’s side with six marked for ITA Scholar-Athletes. Tiffin had four and Findlay/Hillsdale each recorded three selections.
 
The men’s teams from Findlay, Hillsdale, Tiffin and Walsh, all secured ITA All-Academic Team status as well.
