2018 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Team (PDF)
GREENSBURG, Pa. – On the campus of Seton Hill University, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team was unveiled with 46 total selections as made by the league’s coaches.
The Great Midwest Championship semifinals featured No. 1 seed and regular-season conference champion Seton Hill matched up against No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit while No. 2 seed Lake Erie had an opening-round draw against No. 3 Mercyhurst.
The league is closing in on its first NCAA Championship selection with the sport, which includes three associate member institutions that qualified for the postseason this spring.
The sport of men’s lacrosse includes several specific individual awards including offensive, defensive, goalkeeper, specialist, freshman and coach of the year.
A total of 12 student-athletes were each named to first and second team while an additional 22 selections earned status on the honorable mention all-conference team.
The
Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year was Seton Hill senior attack
Jack Moran, who was a three-time conference athlete of the week selection. Moran was the league leader in total points with 76 and assists with 32. His playmaking ability has vaulted him into the conference career record books through two seasons as the league’s best point scorer.
Seton Hill also received
Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year with
Max Eismann between the pipes and
Great Midwest Specialist of the Year in the form of senior long stick midfielder
Brett Craig.
Eismann’s save percentage of .553 was tops in the league as the Griffins’ defense permitted just 101 goals from opponents in 15 games. He was also the conference defensive player of the week for the second time in his career this season.
The junior Craig draws a lot of attention on the field for his ability on both ends of the field and remains a viable repeat All-American candidate with SHU on a 13-game win streak entering the conference tournament. He had 10 goals and four assists with team-leading numbers in both ground balls (74) and caused turnovers (31).
Repeating as
Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year was senior stalwart and USILA All-American
Greg Weyl of Mercyhurst. He anchored the Lakers stingy defensive unit that gave up less than 100 goals on the year. Weyl also earned the defensive player of the year in the league last season; this spring he has totaled 51 ground balls and caused 40 turnovers.
Additional hardware for nationally-ranked Mercyhurst was awarded to rookie attack
Devin Pipher as the
Great Midwest Freshman of the Year. Wearing #99, Pipher emerged as the Lakers’ second-leading scorer with 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points. He started 13 of the 14 games for Mercyhurst in the regular season his shot percentage (.594) and shot on goal percentage (.906) speaks volumes of his efficiency when on the field.
Great Midwest Coach of the Year Brian Novotny navigated Seton Hill to a near-perfect season going into the playoffs with a 14-1 overall record and 7-0 run through the conference schedule. His Griffins are ranked third nationally in the USILA National Poll and third in the NCAA North Region rankings.
