South Division Baseball Players of the Week (May 1)

INDIANAPOLIS – Davis & Elkins and Trevecca were recipients of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week honors for the South Division as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca have locked up their postseason bids to the Great Midwest Championship held at PRASCO Park in Mason, Ohio. The final seed from the South Division appears will it come down to a pivotal series this weekend between Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Valley.
 
The top three seeds from the North and South Division will make the conference tournament along with two wild card selections.
 
South Division Player of the Week

Mahon channeled his inner Jose Altuve with a flurry of hits in the middle Senators’ lineup as D&E completed a three-game divisional sweep vs. Cedarville.
 
The junior slugger was 11-for-13 at the plate for a gaudy .843 batting average with a home run, double, eight RBI and six runs scored in just the three contests.
 
He had a pair of four-hit games and a three-hit effort to close the weekend.
 
In game one against the Yellow Jackets, he was 4-for-5 with three RBI and both extra-base hits. To start the doubleheader the following day, Mahon was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI.
 
The series finale included more of the same production with a 3-for-4 line in the box score with two RBI three runs scored.
 
Mahon’s slash line improved to .357/.643/.472 with his offensive outburst. He is ranked ninth among all players in the league in batting average. Mahon has also slugged nine home runs to go with 43 RBI.
 
 
South Division Pitcher of the Week

Pierce was simply electric on the mound in his next turn through the rotation to earn repeat divisional pitching honors.
 
This time, he locked up Ohio Valley in a 6-1 TNU win as the Trojans clinched a Great Midwest Championship bid with their South Division record.
 
Pierce struck out eight Fighting Scots to the tune of one run on four hits as he went seven strong innings for the winning decision. His ERA sat at 1.29 for the week and he tamed opposing OVU hitters to a .160 average.
 
Pierce improved to 2-5 on the spring and he has racked up 80 strikeouts in almost 72 innings pitched for a 4.27 ERA. He has made 12 starts and has held batters to a .230 clip.
