North Division Baseball Players of the Week (March 5)

3.5.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Dominican earned both selections for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week covering the North Division as announced on Monday afternoon.

The Panthers improved to 7-3 on the season following a pair of series against incoming member institution Tiffin and against Wayne State. All five games will count towards Midwest Region consideration as the season continues.

North Division Player of the Week
Colin Kaucher
Ohio Dominican
Catcher
Junior
Toledo, OH (Toledo Central Catholic HS)

For the second week in a row, a backstop from the North Division has wielded a mighty bat for player of the week honors. In the mold of teammates Justin Childers and Joey Machuga, another ODU offensive player was chosen for his effort at the dish.

In five games, Kaucher hit .429 while going 6-for-14 at the plate. He had six RBI, scored four times, walked five times and recorded a pair of extra-base hits with a triple and double.

He started at catcher in three games and served as the Panthers’ designated hitter in both game two’s of each doubleheader.

Kaucher was 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and a triple against Wayne State in the second contest of the three-game slate. He followed that up with a three-hit day on Sunday with a double and two more RBI.

Kaucher is now hitting .433 while starting all 10 games possible in the ODU lineup. He has 13 hits in 30 at-bats with 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. His on-base percentage is a very healthy .538.

North Division Pitcher of the Week
Mitchell Bault
Ohio Dominican
RHP
Junior
Maineville, OH (Archbishop Moeller HS)

Bault has absolutely been dealing on the mound for Ohio Dominican as he collected his second pitcher of the week award for the second time already this spring.

In regional competition, he made starts against Tiffin and Wayne State to sport a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts.

Bault hurled a complete-game three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts with the pitch count just at 105 against Wayne State. He walked just two as the Panthers offered plenty of run support against the Warriors in an 11-0 final.

He received a no-decision against Tiffin despite going the minimum of five innings. Bault limited the Dragons to one run on four hits and he struck out three. ODU would go on to win that game by a 4-3 final.

This spring, Bault has a K/9 of 11.05 to go with a 2-0 win-loss record in three starts so far. He has made four total appearance and is carrying a 1.23 ERA with 27 K’s in 22 innings pitched.
