Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week (March 19)

3.19.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Nationally-ranked programs Lake Erie and Seton Hill both secured Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week awards as announced on Monday.

LEC (3-1 overall) broke through the USILA national poll this past week at No. 20 in the country and have a half-game lead in the league standings at 2-0. Seton Hill is ranked sixth while Mercyhurst is currently slotted in eighth.

As part of the new alignment with the North Region this spring, the conference is seeking its first NCAA Championship qualifier in the men’s lacrosse bracket.

All eight teams, including the Great Midwest’s three associate members, have played at least one conference contest.

Offensive Player of the Week
Edmond Renaud
No. 20 Lake Erie
Attack
Senior
Carlisle, Ontario (Watertown District/Pfeiffer)

Donning the jersey #91 that makes you think of Sergei Federov or Steven Stamkos, Renaud had the kind of offensive exploits during the Storm’s first two league victories that draws parallels to the hockey greats.

Renaud scored 14 goals, including a single-game conference record 10 against Alderson Broaddus. With 12 points vs. the Battlers, he also shattered the single-game record for points scored, previously nine by AB’s Kier Yonge last spring.

Coincidentally the single-game goals record was also held by AB after Dan Alazraki scored seven times against Davis & Elkins on April 25 of last sesason.

Renaud also scored four goals to go with two assists in LEC’s conference-opening win against Walsh.

Renaud was credited with both game-winning goals in each Great Midwest victory.

The Storm also set a single-game league record for goals scored against the Battlers with 30 on Saturday in Painesville. Seton Hill recorded 25 goals in the spring of 2017 against Alderson Broaddus as the previous single-game league high.

Renaud spearheads the Great Midwest’s top offensive scoring unit as the Storm average 19.75 goals per game. He has also taken over the league lead in both goals and points per game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jay Scerbo
No. 6 Seton Hill
Midfield
Sophomore
Woolwich, NJ (Kingsway HS)

Scerbo collected Great Midwest Freshman of the Year, Great Midwest All-Freshman Team accolades and second team all-conference honors, in a banner rookie season for the Griffins.

Scerbo also helped SHU win a conference championship trophy in its maiden voyage as an associate member of the league. He has continued to be instrumental for the program’s run this spring as the Griffins extended their win streak to five straight.

Scerbo is the league leader in ground balls per game and is second in faceoff percentage (.607) with 91 head-to-head sequences won.

Seton Hill outscored Wheeling Jesuit and North Greenville by a combined score of 27-11 as Scerbo collected 21 total groundballs and won 32 of his 43 faceoff attempts in the circle.

He also scored a goal against North Greenville and played all possible 120 minutes on the field. The Griffins improved to 6-1 overall.
