Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week (March 14)

3.14.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Valley and Findlay continued some promising early-season spring trends as each program shared Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week honors as announced on Wednesday.

The Fighting Scots won their second game of the season, an impressive feat considering the program couldn’t complete part of the 2017 campaign. Findlay rolled to a 4-0 start to the season by dominating three opponents.

Offensive Player of the Week
Emily Prentice
Ohio Valley
Midfield
Sophomore
Melbourne, Australia (Maribrynong HS)

Prentice, an Australian product, is the league leader in assists so far and a big reason why the Fighting Scots have put together wins against Erskine and Southern Wesleyan.

She scored four goals and recorded four assists in OVU’s lone game of the week, a 15-7 win on the road.

Ohio Valley outscored the Warriors 7-2 in the first half as Prentice notched her first goal of the game with 3:24 before the break.

She scored three times in the second half, including the first goal of the final 30 minutes of play. Prentice assisted two goals in each half.

Prentice currently shares the team lead in points with Kayla Stewart (both have 20). Prentice has seven goals and 13 assists.

Defensive Player of the Week
Natalie Fury
Findlay
Defense
Senior
Glenolden, PA (Interboro HS)

The Oilers women’s lacrosse program, like just about every other intercollegiate sport at Findlay, is red hot and rolling through the early portion of the non-conference schedule after beating Wingate, Coker and Charleston, in the past seven days.

All three games were on an East Coast road swing and the Oilers outscored the three opponents by a combined score of 50-18.

UF’s defensive unit has yet to allow double-digit goals scored by either of its four opponents.

The defense includes last week’s defensive player of the week Brittany Stephens and Fury, a senior leader who had an assist vs. Coker and collected three ground balls on the week.

Findlay’s next game this week is the conference opener against preseason coaches poll favorite Lake Erie on Saturday, a matchup that could prove to be crucial as postseason seeding develops.
