INDIANAPOLIS – Hillsdale and Davis & Elkins each were represented in the new edition of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s & Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week announced on Wednesday.
Spring Break trips meant a busy week of tennis against all forms of non-conference competition in warmer climates. Great Midwest teams were able to play against DII and NAIA opponents on neutral courts.
Athlete of the Week
Justin Hyman
Hillsdale
Junior
Oakland Township, MI (Rochester Adams HS)
Another week and another Charger to collect conference weekly honors with Hyman in the mix following Hillsdale’s Spring Break outing in Florida.
The Chargers fell against nationally-ranked Saint Leo from the Sunshine State Conference, but rebounded with a Midwest Region victory against Southern Indiana.
Hillsdale’s record is now 4-5 on the season.
Hyman contributed one of the team’s points against Saint Leo, ranked seventh nationally and fifth in the South Region by the ITA. He teamed up with Charlie Adams to take down the Lions’ combo of Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot, 8-5.
Against USI, Hyman performed the clean sweep against Screaming Eagles from the No. 3 singles position and again at No. 1 doubles with Adams, a two-time conference athlete of the week already.
Hyman won his singles match against Yahor Bahdanovich in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, while also winning the doubles point, 8-4. Both wins were crucial in a 5-4 Hillsdale final.

Fermosel was dynamic at the No. 1 singles slot while anchoring the Senators to a pair of Midwest Region victories in South Carolina against Ashland and Ferris State. She also accounted for D&E’s point in defeat against South Region-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic.
Fermosel was a perfect 3-0 in singles going up against each opponent’s top player.
In a 6-3 win against Ashland, Fermosel beat Camille Ringot in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. She also won the top doubles match with Elise Simon over Ringot and Anna Hart, 8-5.
