Men’s & Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week (Oct. 3)

10.3.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville and Hillsdale both earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week awards for their efforts in the court in the past week of competition as announced Wednesday.

Several Great Midwest men’s programs took part in the ITA Regionals while some women’s schools also competed in a tournament format at the Northern Ohio Invitational.

Men’s Athlete of the Week
Cole Moss
Cedarville
Freshman
Covington, KY (Calvary Christian HS)

Moss enjoyed a strong showing in both dual competition and at the ITA Regionals that were hosted by Davenport University.

The freshman contributed to a Yellow Jackets’ team win over West Virginia State with wins in both singles and doubles. He also won in straight sets in his opening bout of the Men’s B Singles main draw of regionals.

Moss and the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 with the team’s latest win, a 7-0 blanking vs. WVSU.

He won in straight sets in the No. 2 singles slot in the lineup against Noah Fulks, 7-5, 6-1, and also competed in doubles at the No. 1 position with Dawson Poling.

Moss won against a conference opponent in regionals, beating Hillsdale’s Nico de Enrique Schmidt, 6-3, 6-1. He played against Ryan Rhoades of Grand Valley State in the next round.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Sarah Hackman
Freshman
Island Lake, IL (Wauconda HS)

Just what the rest of the conference wants to see from the reigning league champion Chargers – another talented student-athlete to add to the arsenal of head coach Nikki Walbright.

Hackman won two singles matches and three doubles contests at the Northwest Ohio Invite held in Lima, Ohio, last weekend.

She was a perfect 3-0 in doubles with partner Hannah Cimpeanu, last year’s conference freshman of year.

Hackman also picked up singles flight wins over Tiffin and host Northwest Ohio. Hackman and Cimpeanu also defeated two different pairings of Tiffin doubles combos in the tournament as well.
