Cross Country Athletes of the Week (Oct. 16)

INDIANAPOLIS – Alderson Broaddus and Cedarville earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week honors as teams around the league continue to gear up for the postseason.
 
Temperatures dropped like a rock over the past weekend as a handful of schools competed at the Jenna Strong Classic, Penn State Fayette Invitational, Gettysburg Invitational and Berry Invitational.
 
Tiffin went all the way up to Massachusetts to run in the Boston Classic.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Caleb Pell
Alderson Broaddus
Senior
Looneyville, WV (Roane County HS)
 
For the second time this season already, Pell received weekly conference honors after placing runner-up at the Penn State Fayette Invitational.
 
Pell crossed the finish line in a time of 26:13.80 and averaged 5:14.80 per mile to finish second in a field of 76 total runners.
 
The Battlers would finish fifth in the team scoring in AB’s latest 8K race.
 
Pell’s time at the event was tops around the league as AB has completed five events during the current fall season.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Alayna Ackley
Cedarville
Freshman
Hart, MI (Hart HS)

 
Ackley helped the Yellow Jackets win the team title at the Gettysburg Invitational, a large scale event with 30 teams and over 300 runners.
 
The freshman placed fourth overall with a time of 22:56.40 and was one of four Yellow Jackets to land in the top 10 of the individual placewinners.
 
Ackley joined Kayla Casaletto (2nd), Sarah Hoffman (9th) and Bethany Sholl (10th), among the team’s top finishers.
 
Cedarville held off Saint Francis University for the team title and beat out schools like Shippensburg, Bucknell and Howard as well.
 
Ackley’s time ranks 16th in the league this year in the 6K distance. This is her first career conference weekly honor.
