Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week (Jan. 31)

INDIANAPOLIS - Two different programs were represented with this week’s Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week. Janko Radmanovic of Findlay was awarded the men’s honor and Hillsdale’s Grace Houghton earned the women’s honor.
 
The season will reach its peak in the conference when schools travel to Malone for the inaugural Great Midwest/Mountain East Championships in Canton, Ohio, at the C.T. Branin Natatorium starting on Feb. 14.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week

For the fifth time this season, Findlay’s NCAA All-American Radmanovic dominated the pool to earn the weekly honor.
 
He swam in four events and took home first place in three of them. He took home the 50-Yard freestyle by almost three seconds with a time of 20.62, a time that was just two tenths of a second short of topping his own top time in the conference this season.
 
He followed that up with a win in the 100-Yard Freestyle by over three seconds as well with a time of 45.09. The senior already has NCAA “B” Class Times in both of those events this season.
 
His final win came in the 200-Yard IM where he set the conference best with a time of 1:54.28. That time was 11 seconds faster than the second place competitor and completed his sweep of individual events for the week.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

Houghton marks the fifth time Hillsdale has taken home the Women’s Athlete of the Week for Swimming & Diving this season.
 
The junior swam in two different meets this past weekend taking home four different first place finishes.
 
She kicked off the weekend Friday with the Chargers hosting Indiana Wesleyan University. Her first event was the 1650 Yard Freestyle with her taking home first place with a time of 18:46.66, finishing almost 30 seconds ahead of second place. That time was the ninth fastest in the conference this season.
 
She continued that meet with a win in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:01.87.
 
The next day Hillsdale again played host to Ohio Northern University and Case Western Reserve University, with Houghton taking home two first places in that meet as well.
 
Her first win came as a member of the 400 Yard Medley Relay alongside Katherine Heeres, Anika Ellingson, and Mary Vita with a finishing time of 4:03.32.
 
She scored her fourth and final victory of the weekend in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a finishing time 2:13.15.
