Cross Country Athletes of the Week (Sept. 5)

9.5.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville and Walsh claimed the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the 2017 season as announced on Tuesday.

Cedarville competed at the Queen City Invitational and Walsh hosted the Ric Sayre Invitational to get the fall started. Both races were 5K distances.

Men’s Athlete of the Week
Ethan Sullivan
Cedarville
Jr. – Springfield, OH (Kenton Ridge HS)

Sullivan recorded one of the best times in conference history to begin the season at the Queen City Invitational, an event where Cedarville was the only non-Division I team in the field.

Sullivan finished 14th overall with a time 15:38.80, to rank fourth all-time in league history behind Logan Rodgers (Trevecca), Benjamin Tuttle (Cedarville) and Daniel Michalski (Cedarville).

The Yellow Jackets beat out Xavier and Wright State in the team standings despite running without Michalski and 2014 G-MAC Freshman of the Year Zac Bowen.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Sarah Berger
Walsh
Sr. – Wadsworth, OH (Wadsworth HS)

Berger made a splash in her Great Midwest debut by establishing a new conference record in the 5K Ric Sayre Invitational that Walsh hosted.

The Cavaliers finished first as a team and Berger led the way with a runner-up performance and an impressive time of 17:25.40.

Her time officially topped Carsyn Koch of Cedarville and the 17:53.00 she ran at the 2015 NCCAA Championships.

Berger was a defender for the 2016 Walsh soccer team and ran in the NCAA DII Midwest Regional following her postseason on the pitch. She would finish 22nd in the regional as the Cavaliers placed ninth as a team.
