Cross Country Athletes of the Week (Sept. 26)

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week were announced for the fourth week of the regular season on Tuesday.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan had two runners perform well in a Division I-heavy field at the Austin Peay Invitational to earn recognition in the 4 Mile and 5K distances, respectively.
 
The conference had five programs between men’s and women’s represented in the USTFCCCA Top 25 National Poll in Week 2. Hillsdale and Cedarville cracked the top 10 in the women’s poll with the Chargers jumping to sixth and Cedarville at No. 25 10. Walsh also broke into the Top 25, coming in at 17th. Malone also received votes on the women’s side.
 
On the men’s side, the sole representative comes from Walsh, who currently sit as the 25th-ranked team in the national poll.
 
George Marsch
Kentucky Wesleyan
Freshman – Hawesville, KY (Hancock County HS)
 
Kentucky Wesleyan’s George Marsch was named G-MAC Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after finishing with the top time for the 4-mile distance in the 2017 season.
 
The freshman ran a 19:53.8 and finished 17th at the Austin Peay Invitational helping lead Kentucky Weselyan to a fifth-place finish out of eight schools.
 
Marsch has paced the Panthers so far, finishing each of their first three meets as the team’s top finisher.
 
Rachel Keeley
Kentucky Wesleyan
Senior – Owensboro, KY (Owensboro HS)
 
The 2015 Great Midwest All-Conference Second Team member also demonstrated a strong showing this week as the Panthers tackled a 5K course.
 
Keeley finished seventh at the Austin Peay Invitational with a time of 18:58.8, which ranks as one of the top 25 times ran at that distance around the conference this season.
 
Like Marsch, Keeley has finished first on the team in Kentucky Wesleyan’s first three meets and led the Panthers to a sixth-place team finish on the women’s side.
 
This is Keeley’s second career G-MAC Athlete of the Week selection.
