INDIANAPOLIS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its Week 2 national and regional cross-country polls with Great Midwest Athletic Conference teams represented.
The largest and most noticeable bump came from the Hillsdale College women’s team. The Chargers were ranked 14th last week, but have jumped all the way up to sixth in the nation in this week’s poll. This comes after finishing in second place in Michigan State’s Spartan Invitational among Division II schools.
Hillsdale was not the only team to crack the Top 10 this week as Cedarville ranked 10th in this week’s national poll.
A new addition to the USTFCCCA Top 25, and the final Great Midwest team to crack the rankings comes with Walsh. The Cavaliers jumped up to 17th in the polls after receiving votes last week. Malone also received votes after being ranked 21st in the Week 1 poll coming in unofficially at 27th.
On the men’s side, Walsh comes in as the only Great Midwest team in the Top 25 coming in at 25th overall, moving down two spots from last week’s No. 23 ranking.
On the regional side of the poll, three men’s teams and four women’s teams found their way into the rankings.
The first of the three men’s teams is Walsh, who remained ranked fifth in the Midwest Region. The new addition in the regional rankings comes in Malone with the Pioneers at sixth. Hillsdale comes in at eighth after being ranked sixth last week.
The Hillsdale women also made a jump in the Midwest Regional ranking. After being ranked fifth last week, the Chargers moved all the way up to second in this week’s poll right behind leader Grand Valley State University.
Moving down the list, Cedarville comes in at fourth, moving down one spot. The Yellow Jackets are now followed by Walsh, moving from ninth to fifth in the rankings this week. The final team in the rankings is Malone. The Pioneers are now seventh after being ranked sixth last week.
