INDIANAPOLIS – Completing its first year as a championship-sponsored sport, men’s lacrosse made an instant splash with a total of 48 selections to the 2016-17 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
The 48 men’s lacrosse selections add to the record-breaking total of student-athletes and brings the new number up to 607.
The sport of men’s lacrosse in the 2016-17 season featured three full member institutions (Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins, Ohio Valley) and four associate members (Lake Erie, Mercyhurst, Seton Hill, Walsh).
Lake Erie and Walsh have officially joined the Great Midwest for full league membership as of July 1. The conference also announced Wheeling Jesuit would join the conference as an associate member for the 2017-18 academic year.
Conference champion Seton Hill and Walsh each tied for the most selections with 10 apiece. Mercyhurst and Lake Erie both had eight honorees, Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins placed five on the list and Ohio Valley had two recognized.
Ohio Valley sophomore Quinn Gidzinski was the lone student-athlete to represent the sport with a cumulative GPA at a perfect 4.0.
