PHILIPPI, WV –
Alderson Broaddus emerged as a winner in the Wednesday-night semifinal of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship, setting up a marquee Saturday showdown for all the marbles.

The second-seeded Battlers beat No. 3 seed Davis & Elkins, 19-3, in front of the home faithful and will now travel to Pepper Pike to get ready for the Arrows. AB beat D&E for the third time as Mazzy Dick led the way with four goals while Brooke Thomas had five points, including three goals and a pair of assists.

The memory of a narrow defeat is in the rearview mirror for a young Alderson Broaddus program with just one senior, albeit an impactful one in Jasmine Barham.

And Barham is really good as a five-time conference offensive player of the week, but the Battlers are seeing a youth movement really starting to flourish under the watchful eye of first-year head coach Angie Rudy.

AB has now won four straight for an 8-5 record, including a win against Ursuline on the Arrows’ home field on April 20 to salvage the regular-season series.

The only question that remains is wondering if the Battlers have enough left in the tank to do it again.

Ursuline will be celebrating another majority clean sweep of the individual all-conference awards, including G-MAC Offensive, Defensive, Coach and co-Freshman of the Year hardware.

There are many familiar faces from this year’s 8-7 Ursuline squad who experienced championship glory in 2016, including now two-time league offensive player of the year Cydney Bartlett. Maddie Kipp was a clear difference-maker in last season’s championship final while the Arrows loaded up with an impressive young scoring gun in Natalie Nowicki.

UC was a 13-7 winner in Philippi on April 6, but find itself seeking revenge after coming out on the short end less than two weeks ago.

Saturday’s championship game is set for a 1 p.m. Eastern start in Pepper Pike, the same start time as the men’s lacrosse championship final in Erie, Pa.

Ursuline won the inaugural G-MAC Championship game by a final score of 16-11.
