Official ABCA/Rawlings Release
INDIANAPOLIS – Five student-athletes from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference earned postseason billing on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Midwest All-Region Team.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Tuesday, May 30. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.
Malone and Trevecca Nazarene were both represented as 32 total players from the Great Midwest, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) made the list.
Making the first team was
Keanan Locke (Malone),
Joshua Hurford (Malone),
Roscoe Blackburn (Malone) and
Jesse Peters (Trevecca Nazarene).
Ethan Harrison (Trevecca Nazarene) earned second-team status.
Locke was the Great Midwest Player of the Year after batting .405 and emerging as the league leader in RBI (53), total bases (116) and doubles (20). He also tied for the league lead in home runs with eight.
Blackburn was the Great Midwest Pitcher of the Year as he finished with a 4-2 record and a 1.42 ERA in over 63 innings pitched. He recorded 69 punchouts and started the year with a scoreless innings streak in excess of 36 frames to start the spring.
Hurford tossed a no-hitter, the fourth in the league’s history, and was near-untouchable with a 1.48 ERA and a perfect 7-0 win-loss record. He also fanned 10 in the conference tournament in his lone start against Cedarville.
Peters was the strikeout king in the conference with 78 in just over 65 innings logged. He cashed in with a 7-1 record in 11 games started while compiling a 2.07 ERA to emerge as the staff ace.
Harrison was a first-team all-conference selection and earned G-MAC Player of the Week honors once this spring. He batted .381 with 41 runs scored, 27 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He also tied Locke for the league lead in home runs with eight.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
