2017 USILA/NIKE Division II All-Americans
INDIANAPOLIS - Five student-athletes from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference were selected as United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/NIKE Division II All-Americans.
The league concluded its inaugural season in the spring of 2017 as Great Midwest tournament runner-up Mercyhurst and league champion Seton Hill were both represented on the annual list of the nation's best.
Mercyhurst had four total selections and Seton Hill had one. The USILA/NIKE Division II All-American Team consists of a first, second, third and honorable mention team.
A total of 54 student-athletes from around the country made up the USILA/NIKE Division II Men's All-American Team.
Leading the way with second-team recognition from Mercyhurst was senior midfielder
Ben Brooks (2 G, 2 A, 14 CT, 41 GB, 15 GP) and junior Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year
Greg Weyl (4 G, 2 A, 31 CT, 52 GB).
The Lakers also placed senior attack
James Crowe on the third team. Crowe had 15 goals and nine assists and was a second-team USILA/NIKE All-American as a junior.
Joining Crowe on the third team was Seton Hill first-team all-conference defender
Brett Craig. Craig was a two-time G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week this spring and helped spearhead the Griffins' championship run.
Craig recorded 62 ground balls and forced 22 turnovers while scoring five points for SHU. Additionally, Seton Hill's
Jack Miller was selected to compete in the USILA/NIKE North-South All-Star Game for the South team.
The all-star game will be played Friday, May 26, in Providence, R.I., at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.
Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year
Keyan McQueen of Mercyhurst earned honorable mention status on the list. The senior attack led all players with 62 points in the league (34 goals, 28 assists).
The league will officially expand to eight members next year following the recent addition of Wheeling Jesuit University as an associate member. Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins, Lake Erie, Ohio Valley and Walsh, will be full member institutions for the spring of 2018.
