INDIANAPOLIS – Davis & Elkins’ Robbie McKinney and Tyler Honeycutt were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.
The Senators finished the strong on a high note despite being left on the outside looking in for the six-team conference tournament in Mason, Ohio.
D&E swept Cedarville in a home series and played West Liberty earlier in the week in non-conference action.
McKinney was 4-for-9 at the plate with five runs scored, a pair of RBI and four stolen bases. The sophomore was an on-base machine and demonstrated discipline in the batter’s box for all three games with five walks drawn.
He stole three bases against West Liberty and was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored, three walks and a stolen bases against Cedarville to conclude the regular season.
McKinney was second on the team in batting average with a .313 clip through 44 games. He had 10 extra-base hits and 26 RBI. McKinney also paced the Senators with 30 walks and swiped a team-high 13 stolen bases.
Honeycutt was dialed in for his third winning decision of the spring, which turned out to be the final game of his career. The senior righty struck out seven over nine full innings and gave up just one earned run on eight hits.
Honeycutt started 12 games and went the distance in four while tossing 71 innings and recording 60 strikeouts. His ERA of 5.58 led the team this season.
