INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan’s Joseph Burke and Ohio Valley’s Matthew Carey were picked as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.
Burke finished the five-game week 8-for-17 at the plate and scoring four runs himself. The freshman blasted two home runs, both in a 20-14 win over Cedarville.
Burke's second home run of the game put the Panthers ahead for good in the G-MAC matchup. The Jeffersonville, Ind. native also drove in eight runs on the week and boasted a .882 slugging percentage.
Carey turned in one of his best outings on the mound all season in the nine-inning game on Sunday against Davis & Elkins. He pitched a complete game, allowed just three hits and no earned runs. He also struck out four Senator batters.
Carey picked up his team-leading fifth win of the season, and improved his earned run average to 3.80. At the time, The Fighting Scots extended their eye-opening win streak to 11 straight
