INDIANAPOLIS - Kentucky Wesleyan’s Andrew Kirkland and Cedarville’s Brent Solinger were named this Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.
 
The Panthers improved their conference record to 7-5 following a four-game sweep against Davis & Elkins. Cedarville split a four-game weekend set against reigning conference tournament champ Alderson Broaddus.
 
Kirkland provided his share of offensive firepower from the plate to aid KWC’s cause, going 9-for-16 with three home runs, four doubles, 10 RBI, and six runs scored in only four games.
 
Kirkland’s most notable performance came in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday which the Panthers won 11-2. Kirkland was 3-4 with a double, home run and six RBI.
 
The six RBI is tied for second most in a single game in conference history (completed six times). It has been done twice by Kentucky Wesleyan players this season alone following the same output by Josh Galvan against Oakland City earlier in the spring.
 
The junior third baseman from Louisville, Ky., is now hitting .309 on the season in 27 games, with seven doubles, a pair of triples, six home runs and 25 runs batted in. He now has 13 career homers, tied for sixth in league history for KWC alum and 2016 G-MAC Player of the Year Troy Paris.
 
On Saturday, Solinger pitched in game one of a double header on Saturday against Alderson Broaddus.
 
Solinger had a terrific outing, pitching seven innings of three hit, one-run baseball while walking three and striking out five batters.
 
Solinger, a sophomore from Massillon, Ohio, also picked up his first winning decision of the spring in the outing with the Yellow Jackets in a narrow 2-1 victory, moving his record to 1-4 on the year. Solinger holds a team-best 2.10 ERA in 34.1 innings pitched this year.
