G-MAC Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (April 10)

4.12.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Lake Erie midfielder Mitchell Stokes and goalkeeper Conor Sharkey were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday.

Stokes and Sharkey played a key role for the Storm winning their fourth straight and holding a half-game lead at the top of the conference standings after beating No. 11 Seton Hill.

LEC improved to 6-4 on the season overall with just four scheduled contests remaining in the regular season. The Storm also moved into a tie for 19th in the new USILA/NIKE Coaches Poll.

Stokes, a junior midfielder from New Westminster, British Columbia, scored two goals and assisted on two more LEC scores in a tightly-contested 10-9 final score. He brought the game even at 1-1 with his team’s first goal of the game early in the first period and scored once more before the intermission early in the second period.

In 10 games this spring, Stokes now has 11 goals and six assists for a total of 17 points.

Sharkey improved to 4-1 since being inserted into the starting lineup for head coach Steve Gartelman. Since March 28, Sharkey has reeled off four straight winning decisions against Walsh, Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins and Seton Hill.

He slowed down the Griffins offensive attack with seven saves in the full 60 minutes played.

Sharkey, another Canadian on the LEC roster from Cambridge, Ontario, has now logged almost 300 minutes tending net to go with 35 saves and an 8.17 goals against average.
