G-MAC Baseball Players of the Week (March 6)

INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of freshmen, Davis & Elkins outfielder Johnny Liu and Malone right-hander Eric Mullet, were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.

Liu was the G-MAC Player of the Week for the Senators while Mullet (besides a great last name) earned his first billing as G-MAC Pitcher of the Week.

Liu and the Senators split a four-game weekend series against Cal (PA), but made a huge impact in each game based on the metrics like on-base and slugging percentage.

Liu led all players in the league for the past week in batting average (.538) and he was second in both on-base (.600) and slugging percentage (.692).

Liu smacked a pair of doubles, drove in four and scored four times. He recorded two hits each in the first three games of the series. In Saturday’s last game, he was 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and two doubles.

Mullet and the Pioneers are enjoying some sunshine down in Arizona for their season-opening Spring Break trip.

His college debut was against Grand View (Iowa) and in a 9-4 Malone win, Mullet dazzled with seven innings and eight strikeouts. He only walked two and scattered three hits.

In his first outing against Cal (PA), he struck out both batters he faced in a brief relief outing before being stretched out as a starter against Grand View.
