INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca Nazarene senior Bryson Shelton and Malone junior Roscoe Blackburn were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.
Shelton earned G-MAC Player of the Week for the second time this spring with impressive offensive numbers again. Blackburn is the third Malone hurler to earn G-MAC Pitcher of the Week honors already in 2017.
Both teams started the conference schedule as TNU won three of four against Ohio Valley and Malone ended up splitting a four-game trip with Cedarville.
Shelton went 11-for-18 at the plate with a double and came through as a run producer with 10 total RBI. He doubled and scored four times.
Shelton has established himself as a Triple Crown threat and is currently second in the league in hitting at .450 while slugging four home runs and driving in 29. He leads the league in hits, RBI, total bases and is tied for first in home runs.
Blackburn extended what has become a remarkable scoreless innings streak to begin the season. He has not yet allowed an earned run through over 22 innings pitched.
It’s hard to determine an ace in the rotation for the Pioneers between the likes of Eric Mullet, Joshua Hurford or Blackburn. All have been G-MAC Pitcher of the Week at least once and have locked down opponents with lights out stuff.
The southpaw Blackburn recorded 11 strikeouts against Cedarville while going the the distance on the mound. He allowed one unearned run on seven hits.
In five games, Blackburn is now 1-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA. He is sporting an impressive 6:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and is averaging more than a strikeout per inning.
