G-MAC Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (March 20)

INDIANAPOLIS – Seton Hill sophomore John Miller and Mercyhurst junior Greg Weyl were named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday.

Miller and Weyl led their respective programs to victory in different ways as the Griffins’ midfielder was named G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week and the Lakers’ preseason All-American was tabbed G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Miller recorded three points as No. 11 Seton Hill tangled with No. 16 Lynn, another high-profile battle against a Sunshine State Conference opponent.

But no goal was more clutch as Miller broke a 12-12 stalemate in overtime with a decisive score in overtime with just 30 seconds left on the clock. His second goal of the game lifted Seton Hill to a 3-2 overall record and the Griffins second win against a nationally-ranked opponent (No. 10 Mercy).

Appropriately, Miller scored the first and last goals of the game against the Fighting Knights and was credited with an assist on the third goal of the game that came in the first period.

Weyl and fifth-ranked Mercyhurst rolled in league play against Walsh, coming away with a 15-5 win at home in Erie, Pa.

Only an overtime defeat separates the Lakers from what could be an undefeated spring, but Mercyhurst still fashions an impressive 5-1 overall and 2-0 G-MAC record so far.

In their five wins, the Lakers haven’t allowed more than six goals in each contest. Weyl and teammate Matt Wells have both earned conference defensive accolades this season.

Weyl recorded four ground balls and caused five turnovers in the win against Walsh.
