INDIANAPOLIS - Mercyhurst senior Keyan McQueen and Ohio Valley Zach Hermenau were named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday.
McQueen has established himself as a scoring machine in the league early on as the Lakers generated wins against Saint Rose and Wheeling Jesuit; he earned G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Hermenau impacted the game in different ways and the Fighting Scots pulled out a close win against Chowan for G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week.
McQueen scored a total of 10 points to give him a G-MAC-leading 19 on the spring so far. The Lakers (4-1, 1-0 G-MAC) moved from eighth to fifth this week in the new USILA/NIKE Coaches Poll.
Against the College of Saint Rose, he scored two goals and assisted on two others as Mercyhurst cruised to a 14-4 win. Versus Wheeling Jesuit, he scored twice again and recorded four assists in an 11-6 win.
He also had six ground balls and a caused turnover.
Hermenau and OVU faced UIndy and Chowan in the past week. The sophomore midfielder scored one goal against UIndy and had six ground balls. He also won over 55 percent of his face-offs to help the Fighting Scots maintain possession.
Against Chowan, he had 16 ground balls as the Fighting Scots won by a 12-10 decision. OVU improved to 2-2 on the season.
