INDIANAPOLIS – The Alderson Broaddus tandem of senior Jasmine Barham and sophomore Morgan Winterbottom were named the first pairing of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday.

The Battlers secured a season-opening win against Charleston, 13-9, after finishing runner-up in the inaugural G-MAC Championship in 2016. It also represented the first win in the Angie Rudy coaching era.

Barham was named the G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week and Winterbottom collected G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Barham scored four goals (all unassisted) to lead all players and drive the offensive charge against UC. She scored back-to-back in the first half in less than a four-minute span to give the Battlers a 4-1 lead.

She also scored with 20 seconds left before halftime to give her three goals in the opening period.

Barham’s last goal of the match was the best as she delivered the game winner to break a 7-7 tie in the second half.

Winterbottom was credited with three ground balls and a pair of draw controls to help fortify the Battlers’ defensive stand.

Winterbottom and the Battlers enjoyed a 5-3 lead at halftime and eventually trailed 7-5 before AB roared back with seven consecutive goals to take back momentum from the Golden Eagles.
