INDIANAPOLIS – Alderson Broaddus senior combo Randy Dobnak and Marquis Collier were announced as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week on Monday.
Dobnak earned G-MAC Pitcher of the Week status while Collier was pronounced as the G-MAC Player of the Week.
Defending G-MAC tournament champ Alderson Broaddus enjoyed a season-opening series win against future league member Hillsdale in Michigan as the Battlers won three of four contests against the Chargers.
Dobnak earned the Opening Day nod from first-year head coach Matt Yurish and responded with six shutout innings and 10 strikeouts for the winning decision. He scattered three hits and walked just two.
It also represented the 21st win of his career, tying him for second all-time in G-MAC history with Trevecca Nazarene’s John Bolton. He lowered his career ERA down to 2.52 since the spring of 2014, holding steady as the conference leader in that category.
Dobnak also leads the G-MAC in career strikeouts with an updated total of 232.
Collier recorded at least two hits in each contest of the four-game series, hitting .563 with a 9-for-16 line at the plate. He doubled twice, scored three runs and drove in five.
Collier enjoyed his best game of the series on Sunday in the opener of a doubleheader, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, a double and a walk. He slugged .688 while starting all four games at first base.
Collier has established himself as one of the G-MAC’s premier hitters and his .374 career batting average leads all active players in the conference. He ranks sixth all-time in hits (187) and is tied for fourth in career RBI (133). His 48 doubles also ranks fifth.
